COMMUNITY SUPPORT

Our Community Support team can help with food, furniture, fuel top ups, and other ad-hoc crisis support, funds permitting.  The majority of our funding from West Sussex County Council, to run the Horsham Local Assistance Network was cut in April 2019.  We continue to seek alternative sources of funding, so we can continue help those in need in our community.

We are here to help those resident in Horsham District and who are on benefits or a low income.  For help with furniture and fuel, we will need to see photo ID, evidence of income, proof of address and an up to date bank statement.  Following the cut to our funding, we are focusing our support with furniture and fuel on individuals and couples without children.  Families will be signposted to their local Children and Family Centre in the first instance.

To find out if you qualify for assistance please call Kathryn on 0300 124 0204, or e-mail us on support@horsham-matters.org.uk.

CRISIS SUPPORT

If you are struggling financially, maybe due to problems with benefits or some other issue, or you have recently been housed, we may be able to help you – with an emergency food parcel, help with your fuel meter, or with essential household items.  We may also be able to help with other ad-hoc support.  We aim to raise funds to support the community, through our Charity Store and with other fundraising activities.

HORSHAM FOODBANK

Under the banner of the Trussell Trust, we operate several foodbanks and emergency food collection points, throughout Horsham District.  We work with nearly one hundred different referral agencies, who are able to issue a voucher to people, who for various different reasons, are in need of food.  The voucher can be exchanged at the foodbank for a three day food parcel.  Our foodbank volunteers are also on hand to provide a listening ear, and tea and biscuits, when needed.

NIGHT SHELTER

The Horsham Churches Together Night Shelter provides a safe place overnight for ten guests each night. Our Shelter runs from December through to March offering a hot meal and a bed for guests with a Horsham connection.
In the 2018-19 season we provided shelter for 28 guests, some of which were housed during the shelter period. Through our consistent delivery the wellbeing of guests improve and they are more ‘prepared’ to move in to temporary or permanent accommodation.
Each season around 250 volunteers generously donate their time to ensure we can offer this important provision to homeless residents.
