NIGHT SHELTER

Horsham Churches Together in partnership with Horsham Matters provide a winter Night Shelter.

The aim of the Shelter is to provide safe, emergency accommodation and food to homeless people in the Horsham District. Our partner agencies work alongside our shelter to support our guests towards permanent accommodation.

The Shelter provides free accommodation for up to ten locally connected homeless people. Our winter shelter this year will run from 1st December 2019 until 31st March 2020. Last season we supported 24 different guests across the season.

The accommodation is provided in a different church each night of the week and the Shelter is run by a team of approximately 250 volunteers across the shelter season.

Guests receive a hot meal, usually cooked on site by volunteers. The meal provides an opportunity for volunteers and guests to socialise together over a meal. Each Church venue provides evening activities including games, films and books etc.

If you wish to access the night shelter please contact Louise on 07934 299205 or email horshamnightshelter@turning-tides.org.uk

We warmly welcome donations for our Night Shelter; this significant project is only possible through receipt of community donations.

A £35 donation could be used to provide a sleeping bag, pillow and bed for a guest to be used during the season. If you would like to donate please make your cheque payable to Horsham Matters Ltd, noting on the back of the cheque you wish it to be used for the Night Shelter and we will ensure your donations support the continued success of the Shelter.

Our volunteers have also benefited hugely from their experience, they have told us about the difference it has made to them:

‘I have recognised that it doesn’t take much to go from a stable home situation to being homeless but that it is so difficult to go the other way without help’

‘I helped with breakfasts and despite having to get up earlier than I usually do I am really pleased to play a small part of making homeless people feel that they are worthy and treated as our friends’

I’ve seen that the night shelter really makes a difference, it’s been a very positive experience (and the food was fantastic!)

We will once again be running the Night Shelter from 1st December 2019.
