School uniform poverty

I recently read a report by the Children's Society; 'The Wrong Blazer', although the report refers to data from 2015 it still makes for shocking reading considering that costs have increased since then. The total cost spent on school uniform was a huge £1.3bn at that time.

With families struggling to feed their children school uniform is an additional pressure. I am sure it must be a real anxiety for parents forcing them to make cuts to other essential items or borrowing money to ensure their children have uniform.

Some Counties provide funding for school uniform but that is not available in West Sussex.

To address uniform poverty Horsham Matters will be launching second hand school uniform provision and are asking our community to make donations to help others.
