This week marked a truly special milestone for Horsham Matters – the very first corporate volunteering day at our brand-new allotment.
We were delighted to welcome a fantastic team of six volunteers from Monkhouse, who rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in from the moment they arrived. Supported by our three dedicated lead volunteers, the team brought energy, enthusiasm, and a real sense of purpose to the plot.
In just one day, they achieved an enormous amount. The team dug over large sections of the allotment, preparing the soil for planting. They carefully constructed runner bean frames, planted seeds, and carried out essential maintenance work that will set us up for the growing season ahead.

Our allotment represents something unique within Horsham Matters. We want to achieve a sustainable, community-driven way to produce fresh fruit and vegetables that will directly support our 15 weekly foodbanks and 2 Connecting Cafés. Every seed planted and every bed prepared brings us closer to providing fresh, nutritious produce to people who need it most.
Having Monkhouse as our very first corporate volunteers feels amazing. They’ve helped lay not just the physical foundations of the allotment, but also the foundation for what we hope will become a thriving programme of corporate partnerships.
Corporate volunteering days like this offer something truly powerful. They provide teams with the opportunity to step outside the office, connect with their community, and see the direct impact of their time and effort. At the same time, they play a vital role in helping charities like Horsham Matters expand what we can achieve.
We would love to welcome more organisations to be part of this journey. Whether it’s a team-building day with purpose, a chance to give back, or simply an opportunity to do something different together, our allotment offers a unique and rewarding experience.
Thank you so much to the team at Monkhouse for your support and enthusiasm volunteering at our allotment.
