That’s why we’re partnering with Re:Kit, a local non-for-profit organisation, referring families to them for quality, good as new school uniforms at affordable prices.
The Cost of Returning to School
The cost of getting just one child ready for the new school year can be significant. It is estimated that families spend around £336 on uniforms, sportswear, shoes and stationary for a primary school student, rising to £439 for a secondary school student; large sums for families who are experiencing difficulty.
The additional expense of summer holidays including extra childcare costs, days out and occasional treats also takes a financial toll. We recognise the challenges many families face at this time of year and want them to know that help is available.
Our CEO, Kelvin Glen helps highlight the reality of the financial pressures many families are experiencing. Recognising that although the start of the school year can be an exciting time for children, Glen notes there is substantial evidence that poverty during school years has a lasting impact on children’s educational attainment and life chances.
