Unsurprisingly, as a charity we have seen an increase in demand for food, essential household items and household fuel during the first quarter of the financial year.
Sadly, I feel that the worst is yet to come. Companies face difficult decisions as furlough is phased out and as a result we can expect to see a rise in numbers of households facing poverty.
In the meantime, society slowly gets back to 'normal' and poverty becomes hidden from view at a time when need is increasing.
As an example, in recent weeks we have seen a reduction in food donations and now see our stock at the lowest level since lockdown, yet demand for emergency food parcels at the highest level we have experienced.
Please don't forget to support local charities as communities will need them more than ever.
